Annual and ongoing events.

  • Last Monday in May, 11:00 a.m.

    Memorial Day Program

    Front lawn of the Colbert County Courthouse (Circle of Valor), Tuscumbia. Rain location: Church of Christ Annex.

    Annual community ceremony with presentation of colors, memorial wreath, keynote speaker, music, rifle salute, and Taps. Followed by a barbecue meal at the Church of Christ Annex courtesy of L.O. Bishop.

  • November 11, parade 10:00 a.m., program 11:00 a.m.

    Veterans Day Parade and Program

    Parade lines up at Deshler High School, proceeds south on Main St., west on Sixth, north on Water to the Colbert County Courthouse. Program at the courthouse follows.

    Parade with veterans, military and antique vehicles, the Post 31 Color Guard and local school bands, followed by a courthouse program and barbecue meal at the Church of Christ Annex.

  • November–December

    Holiday Gift Bag Packing and Delivery

    Tuscumbia and partner sites

    Community partners pack hundreds of gift bags for veterans in nursing homes, assisted-living facilities, hospice and home. Bags are delivered in person by small teams of members.

  • April–May (new in 2026)

    Memorial Day Gift Bag Effort

    Tuscumbia and partner sites

    Expansion of the holiday gift-bag program to a second annual cycle, with donations collected April 1 – May 11 and delivered for Memorial Day across Colbert, Franklin and Lauderdale counties.

  • Before Memorial Day

    Grave Flag Placement

    Local cemeteries including Colbert Memorial Gardens

    Post 31 Color Guard and community volunteers place American flags on the graves of veterans. Donations toward flags are welcome year-round.

  • Third Monday, 6:00 p.m.

    Monthly Post Meeting

    Post hall, 110½ N. Main St. (upstairs, stair lift available)

    Open to members and visiting veterans. A meal is shared. Confirm the next date on the Post's Facebook group.

  • December

    Annual Christmas Dinner

    Church of Christ Annex, Tuscumbia

    Members, guests and all veterans are invited to share a meal and fellowship.
